Rains could mar Guwahati one-dayer

Guwahati, Apr 7 (UNI) The possibility of play in the fifth one-dayer between India and England here could be affeceted as torrential rains in the past five days have considerably damaged the outfield and the wicket.

The Asom Cricket Association (ACA) officials are keeping their fingers crossed and ACA secretary Bikash Barua said all necessary measures had been taken to protect the wicket and outfield.

''But everything is in the hand of God,'' he said, looking up with despair as the sun is playing hide and seek amidst black clouds.

Rain lashed the city early this morning and the met office has predicted rain in all days till April 10.

Meanwhile, both the teams are reaching here tomorrow for the fifth match.

Pitch curator Sunil Barua said blankets were being used to protect the wicket and expressed confidence that if sun returns for even half a day, the outfield and pitch would be perfect for a high-scoring match.

With the series safely in India's hands, the home team has decided to rest Dravid and Virender Sehwag will captain the side.
