Quereshi downs Bopanna to give Pak 1-0 lead

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) Pakistan drew first blood when their top ranked player Aisam ul-Haq Quereshi defeated Rohan Bopanna of India in straight sets to take a 1-0 lead in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone group one play-off tie here today.

Qureshi beat Bopanna 7-6 (7/5) 6-4 6-4 to put Pakistan one up, at the Brabourne stadium here.

Quereshi took control of the match after a tight first set which he won at 7-5 in the tie-breaker.

Bopanna was drained out after the tough first setter and meekly submitted to his Pakistani counterpart 6-4, 6-4 in the next two sets, to hand the match to Pakistan and with it the lead.

Prakash Amritraj will take on Aqeel Khan in the second singles later this afternoon.

Investors give thumbs-down to CCB results

HONG KONG, April 7 (Reuters) Shares of China Construction Bank (CCB), the country's third-biggest lender, fell nearly 3 percent on Friday, a day after its 2005 results showed disappointing cost control and loan growth in the second half.
