President seeks judiciary to speedily dispose corruption cases

Bangalore, Apr 7 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today sought the judiciary of the country to help remove corruption.

Inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka High Court, the President lamented widespread corruption in the country and the apathy shown by children on the sourge of corruption on the society and said that the judiciary should speedily dispose of cases pertaining to corruption and help the cause.

Referring to the interaction he had with school children in Tumkur, Madikeri and Bangalore where the question of corruption was raised he said ''Agony of the young mind is reflected in this question''.

''Definitely, the self-esteem of every Indian is affected when someone says India is a corrupt nation'' he said and added that the judiciary should ''spare time on eliminating corruption''.

''Based on the vast experience of dealing with many cases, you may suggest streamlining and re-engineering of procedure that would make us transparent and remove the possibilities for corruption'' he added.

Warne taunts Murali again, says he took most wickets against minnows

Dhaka, Apr 7 (UNI) Champion leg-spinner Shane Warne today continued his taunt on Muttiah Muralitharan, saying that the Sri Lankan spin wizard took most of his wickets playing against cricket minnows. ''Murali got most of his wickets against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, but in comparison I played only one Test against Zimbabwe and is yet to play against Bangladesh,'' Warne said at a press conference here today. UN disappointed US staying away from rights body

GENEVA/DUBLIN, Apr 7 (Reuters) The United Nations human rights office and activists voiced disappointment today at the US decision not to seek a seat on the UN Human Rights Council. The Bush administration vowed yesterday to support the new council financially and work to make it ''strong and effective''. Fresh protests in Nepal against king's rule

KATHMANDU, Apr 7 (Reuters) Hundreds of Nepali students fought pitched battles with police today, braving tear gas, hurling stones and chanting pro-democracy slogans as a four-day general strike against the king's rule entered its second day. The strike and protests have been called by the Himalayan kingdom's seven main political parties in what they hope will be a definitive campaign against King Gyanendra, who sacked the government and took control of the nation last year......
