Petroleum Ministry signs MoUs with Imperial College, London

London, Apr 7 (UNI) India today signed two agreements with the Imperial College, and London University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom to strengthen research and development in the petroleum sector.

The agreements were signed during the visit of Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora.

The two prestigious colleges will help the petroleum sector in India to access the expertise available in the UK, Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry officials said.

Indian Oil Corporation and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation have also shown interest in availaing the know-how available in the sector, they said.

Indian High Commission to the UK, Kamlesh Sharma, Imperial College, London Pro Rector Dr Tidu Maini and University of Aberdeen Vice Principal Prof. Dominic Houlihan were present during the signing ceremony.

''With the Imperial College there has also been a historical connection as many Indian scientists and prominent persons, including the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, have been academically nurtured in this great institution,'' said Mr Deora.

Govt amend constitution to facilitate reservations: SFI

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Students Federation of India today said it was not against the proposed 27 per cent reservation of seats for the OBCs in central universities, IIMs, IITs and other educatioonal institutions and instead wanted the government to amend the constitution in this regard. Stressing that reservation to OBCs were prevalent in several states, the SFI in a release said the government should bring a legislation to provide reservation in self-financing.....

Angry fishermen force MLA to retreat

Visakhapatnam, Apr 7 (UNI) Angry villagers of Gangavaram forced Pendurthy MLA Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy, under whose constituency the trouble-torn fishing village falls, to beat a hasty retreat after he visited the village to console the agitating fishermen today. 18 EEs dismissed, departmental action against 17 SEs

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Municipal Corporation of Delhi has dismissed 18 Executive Engineers and initiated departmental inquiry against 17 Superntending Engineers for allegedly conniving and abetting unauthorised constructions in the capital between 2001 and 2005. The Executive Engineers were dismissed from service with immediate effect for allegedly conniving and abetting large scale unauthorised construction and rampant conversion of residential properties into commercial use in their areas, an official statement said late tonight.
