OBC reservation move ''politically motivated'': BJP

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The BJP today termed as ''politically motivated'' the UPA Government's move to provide reservation to OBCs in unaided institutions and autonomous bodies like the IIMs and alleged it was an attempt to derive electoral mileage in assembly polls in five states.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the move had nothing to do with social justice and was a deliberate attempt by the Government to influence assembly elections in five states, now underway. ''If social justice had been the criteria, the Government should have also made the reservation clause applicable to minority institutions.'' Mr Javadekar said there was no official word on the matter.

''If the government was seriously considering to the extend the benefit of reservation to OBCs in education, the BJP would welcome it, provided it was made mandatory in all educational institutions.'' UNI KAS RR RN1702
