New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Notwithstanding differences within the Congress, the Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Agreement may be through within ''a few months'' and both countries are working hard to fulfil their respective responsibilities, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher said today.
''I hope we can get it done in a few months from now. We are proceeding on all those (NSG, IAEA, US Congress and some bilateral Indo-US agreements regarding the deal) simultaneously. When they can come all together, I don't know...may be months. But we will get it done,'' Mr Boucher said replying to questions after addressing a seminar here organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
He, however, rejected suggestions for a time-frame for the deal to come through saying there were some people in the US Congress who had doubts while some were supportive.
''It is all part of democracy. But I can't predict what will happen in the Congress. They are actually working at it,'' he said.
Mr Boucher, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit, today held talks with Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and S Jayashankar, Joint Secretary (Americas) in the External Affairs Ministry, on bilateral, regional and international issues.
He rejected the assertion that Bush Administration would ask for sme changes in the deal to suit the Congress, the NSG or the IAEA.
''We are not asking for change in the deal. What we negotiated is the best thing. We are not going to re-negotiate,'' he added.
