Narmada oustees protest central ministers

Bhopal, Apr 7: Three central ministers today met with strong protest from displaced people while inspecting resettlement sites of the Sardar Sarovar dam on the Narmada river in Dhar and Badwani districts of western Madhya Pradesh.

Water Resource Minister Saifuddin Soz, Social Justice Minister Meira Kumar and Minister of State in the PMO Prithvi Raj Chouhan were targeted by angry villagers during their visit to Dharampuri in Dhar and Borlaye and Piplud areas in Badwani.

The agitated mob stopped the ministers' motorcade and raised slogans protesting inadequate rehabilitation and underpayment of compensation, reports reaching the state capital said.

At Dharampuri, the villagers removed the key of Mr Soz's vehicle.

Police intervention enabled the ministers to proceed.
