LFW selects designers for International fashion events

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) Lakme Fashion Week has selected ten participating designers to showcase their creations at various international fashion events across the world.

Designer Sabyasachi has been selected to participate in the Olympus Fashion Week at New York in September 2006, while Manish Malhotra, Priyadarshini Rao and Surily Goel will participate in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Los Angeles in October this year.

Anshu Arora Sen, Rocky S and Savio Jon have been selected to showcase at the Singapore Fashion Festival in March 2007.

Three designers, Nandita Mahtani, Sonam Dubal and Narendra Kumar Ahmed are the chosen trio who will display their creations at the Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week, a press release issued here yesterday said.

Announcing the names, Fern Mallis, Executive Director and Vice President of the International Management Group (IMG) said that the ''number of great collections'' showcased during the Lakme Fashion Week here made their task difficult as most of the designers presented collections which could go international. IMG was extremely pleased to facilitate the participation of these designers in the premium global events, he added.

''Participation of the selected Lakme Fashion Week designers at the international well-watched events will provide an unprecedented presence of Indian designers in the global market,'' Mr Mallis said.

''Lakme Fashion Week had been conceived and created with an aim to integrate India into the global fashion world. We are proud that the event has been successful in fulfilling its objectives,'' Lakme Lever Vice President Anil Chopra said.

It has become a platform that not only showcased Indian talent before an international audience, but is also providing multiple opportunities to globalise Indian fashion, he said.

A team of global fashion experts and representatives of the LFW advisory board selected the designers with inputs from the impressive contingent of international buyers and media.
