Left reject SP, TDP initiative on Third Front

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Left parties today rejected the 'National Alternative' formed by the Samajwadi Party and the Telugu Desam Party with other regional groupings, saying it was devoid of a common approach and concrete policies and programmes.

''Besides, their talk about foreign policy is deceptive...it is anti-imperialism that should form the basis of any independent foreign policy of our country,'' the CPI, CPI(M) and RSP said while resolving to establish a ''truly non-Congress and non-BJP third alternative'' to play a more decisive role at the Centre.

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and TDP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had yesterday announced the a new ''non-Congress, non-BJP'' political front, calling it a ''National Alternative''.

The new political grouping comprised of the SP, TDP, the AIADMK, Asom's AGP and the National Conference.

CPI leaders A B Bardhan and Shamim Faizi told UNI that the new grouping did not have a direction on socio-economic and political issues.

''If one goes by the past experience, the TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu not only supported the NDA, but more vigorously implemented them in his home state -- Andhra Pradesh -- which led to suicides by farmers.''
