Kerala BJP focuses on agricultural, traditional sectors

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 7 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala today emphasised that agricultural and traditional sectors would be given more prominence in the state's development.

Releasing the party's election manifesto here, BJP State president P S Sreedharan Pillai alleged that both the United Democratic Front and the Left Democratic Front had failed on all fronts.

Though Kerala boasted of cent per cent literacy and overall development in all spheres, Kerala was far behind and was still considered a ''dependent state'', he said.

Promising a debtless, povertyless and a developed Kerala, he said the party would give prominence to agricultural and traditional sectors.

In the agricultural sector, the manifesto said the interest rate of agricultural loans would be reduced, price of fertilisers brought down and electricity subsidy provided.

For the development of the traditional sector, an ''Artisans University'' would be established.

It also promised to start a ship service between Thiruvananthapuram and Vizhinjam and also bring in new developments in the transport sector.

Saying that the BJP stood for religious harmony, the party said it would take all steps to prevent conversions.

Bhutto's PPP rejects new corruption charges

KPTCL announces unscheduled load shedding

Bangalore, Apr 7 (UNI) Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) today informed that it would resort to unscheduled load shedding for the next few days to overcome the power crisis and improve grid stability in the state. In a statement here, the Corporation said the estimated power loss in the state as of now was 976 MW. The loss was due to defects in Raichur, Kaiga, Nagihari generating stations and Talchar-Kolar lines, it added. UNI SIV.....
