Kalam seeks ban on taking pictures of scientific installations

Bangalore, Apr 7 (UNI) President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today called for enacting a law, banning capturing of pictures of important Scientific installations in the country through remote sensing satellites.

''Many countries have banned taking photos and we have to create our own law to ban taking pictures of important installations in the country,'' he said replying to a query from a student, during an interactive session, on what measures scientists had taken to protect sensitive installations shown on the website, Google earth.

To another question on female foeticide, he said that providing education to women was the key to eradicating the practise.

On the decline of political morality, he said ''Youth with morality must enter the political system and make a revolution.'' Asked how best the object of Article 39-A of the Constitution could be achieved by involving the student community in the Legal Literacy Programmes, the President said ''By understanding the provisions of Law and Act definitely the student community can help in their own family when such a situation occurs or any one needing help in a rural area. Definitely the students with the background of legal literacy programme will know the routes to follow for getting justice,'' he added.

On call centres luring boys and girls who have just completed 10+2 studies and spoiling their future, Mr Kalam said the learning process should continue even if they work in call centres.

UN disappointed US staying away from rights body

GENEVA/DUBLIN, Apr 7 (Reuters) The United Nations human rights office and activists voiced disappointment today at the US decision not to seek a seat on the UN Human Rights Council. The Bush administration vowed yesterday to support the new council financially and work to make it ''strong and effective''. Fresh protests in Nepal against king's rule
