Jr Madani urges people to strengthen Congress

Guwahati, Apr 7 (UNI) Moulana Masood Madani, the younger son of the late Moulana Arshad Madani who was the president of Jamiat-Ulema-e- Hind, today urged the people of Asom to strengthen the Congress to counter the RSS and the Sangh Parivar's designs to divide the country on religious line.

Talking to newspersons here, he said his father was also an active Congres worker and he had followed in only his footsteps since this was the party which had the ability to withstand the RSS and Hindutva onslaught.

Lambasting the newly formed Assam United Democratic Front(AUDF) and Moulana Ahmed Bukhari, Haji Imam of Jama Masjid who had campaigned for the AUDF earlier, he said, '' AUDF and the Imam are agents of the RSS and are trying to disintegrate the country.'' The Moulana said Mulayam Singh Yadav was also posing to be a Messiah of Muslims like the Imam but in reality he was only trying to woo the Muslim voters of Uttar Pradesh. He also charged the UP Chief Minister with indulging in spreading communal tension in different places in the state.

''These efforts are to weaken the Congress and if the Congress became weak, the whole country will suffer as this party only has the strength to counter such moves,'' he said.

He alleged that the AUDF was being controlled from Dubai and it also had links with the RSS as all these forces were planning to create disturbances in the country.

Moulana Madani, who is the chairperson of Uttaranchal government's 15-point programme, said the Congress president had agreed to fulfil about 80 per cent demands for the betterment of the minority.

When asked about unabated infiltration of illegal migrants to the state, he said it was the responsibility of the government to detect and deport them. He, however, could not reply to questions raised on the amendment to the Foreigners Act, 1964.
