Mapusa, Goa, Apr 7 (UNI) A fine brace by man of the match Sunil Chetri guided JCT Mills Phagwara to rout Salgaocar 3-0 and earned full points in the 2nd leg tie of the 10th ONGC Cup National Football League championship at the Duler ground here today.
Sunil Chetri, in the 7th and 14th minutes, and Jaswinder Singh in the 37th minute scored for JCT. All goals came in the first half.
The millmen, with today's win, registered their third victory from 11 outings and increased their points tally to 13 points and has come at par with Dempo and Air India.
Salgaocar remained at eight points from 12 outings.
JCT played a spirited game and shot into the lead early in the 7th minute of the first half through Chetri, whose full-blooded shot slipped through the rival goal keeper's hands into the net to give the Punjab team a 1-0 lead.
After some persistent raids, JCT tasted success in the 14th minute through Chetri again whose header found the net off a freekick taken by Marcos Pereira and were 2-0 up.
Jaswinder Singh made it 3-0 in favour of the visitors in the 37th minute.
Such was JCT's dominance today in the first session that they toyed with the rivals right from the word go.
Salgaocar today failed to combine as a team and let their opponents's forward line function freely.
The second half did not witness much action as JCT adopted defensive tactics for the major part.
Salgaocar made some desperate attempts to reduce the margin but without much luck.
