Govt to hike tariff in tourist resorts

Aizawl, Apr 7 (UNI) The Mizoram government plans to increase room tariff in all the Government-owned tourist resorts across the region.

Talking to the media, State Tourism Minister Z H Ropuia said once the on-going work for the improvement of tourist lodges across the state is completed, his department is likely to hike room the tariff.

Justifying the hike, the minister also added that tariff worked out by his department was quite reasonable as compared to room rents in other states.

Mr Ropuia also pointed out the hike is aimed to increase the tourism revenue.

He also added that initiatives were also on to privatise highway restaurants and resorts in the state shortly.

''We are making assessments to privatise about two to three highway restaurants and resorts as the first step. We will privatise more of them later depending on the revenues they generate'', the minister said.

He added that a few highway restaurants and resorts are to be dismantled as the buildings have deteriorated while the Chaltlang Tourist lodge would be upgraded to a three-star hotel status.

Mr Roputa however, claimed that the state has gained revenues from the highway restaurants and resorts in average.

He said ''We have high hopes in tourism industry for the state, so does the Centre who has sanctioned us huge funds and are ready to sanction more funds to boost the industry''.
