Government employees join pro-democracy movement

Kathmandu, Apr 7 (UNI) Employees of state run banks, telecommunications and electricity offices have joined the general strike called by the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) from today.

Employees Unions of Rastriya Banijya Bank (NRB) have brought work to a halt in support of the general strike called by the seven parties for the restoration of democracy.

Employees of the bank and other financial institutions assembled at the Singha Durbar, the central office of the state run commercial bank and chanted anti-government slogans. They were joined by the Telecommunication employees and those working in the electricity offices who also halted work.

Health workers at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital organized a silent rally and protest programme at the hospital premises demanding early restoration of democracy in the country.

Doctors expressed full solidarity to the pro-democracy movement and announced that they will protest on Sunday as well. The protest programme was jointly organized by the Employees Union, Doctors' Association, Nursing Association and Nepal Professors Association.

Meanwhile, more than 200 supporters of the seven parties were arrested today from various parts of the country, the parties said.

Demonstrations were carried out in various parts of the capital city Kathmandu defying the ban imposed by the government.

The protestors clashed with security personnel and tear gas was fired to control the agitators.

More than two dozen people were injured in the clashes.

Demonstrations were also held in Pokhara, Chitwan and other parts of the country.

Police seizes 13,275 pirated books

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Delhi police have seized more 13,275 pirated books of foreign publishers and arrested a person from East Delhi. The market value of the seized books is estimated to be more than Rs 25 lakh. Rajendra Kumar Arya was arrested for running an illegal publishing company under the name of 'All India Publishers and Distributors'. He was arrested from his residence in East Delhi's Anand Vihar areas. Police seized 6,215.....

11 cows' bodies found, three held

Indore, MP, Apr 7 (UNI) Eleven bodies of slaughtered cows were found by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) from a jeep today triggering protest by Bajrang Dal and Gau Seva Bharati members. The agitators 'gheraoed' MG Road police station and demanded strict action against the arrested under the National Security Act and forfeiture of their properties. Earlier, the IMC caught three persons in this connection and handed them over to police. Gau Seva Bharati.....

HC dismisses MP's plea for discharge from Customs case

Kochi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today dismissed the plea of P V Abdul Wahab, MP, and NRI businessman, seeking discharge from a case under the Customs Act for allegedly furnishing false information before the Customs while importing a Mercedez Benz car from Dubai. Justice K Padmanabhan Nair upheld the finding of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences), Ernakulam, to the effect that there are materials to frame charges against Mr Wahab......
