DMK demands EC to take action against officials for code violation

Chennai, Apr 7 (UNI) The opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu today alleged violation of the model code of conduct by a District Collector and other officials and demanded that the Election Commission take stern action against them.

In a letter to Chief Election Comissioner B B Tandon, a copy of which was released to the media, DMK Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy said the Salem District Collector had distributed a sum of Rs 120 crore to various Women Self Help Groups in violation of poll code.

The project officer, District Rural Development Agency and block development officers were also party to this violation, he said.

''The ruling AIADMK has been indulging in several such violations either with the help of the willing officials or by putting pressure on them. This is one such violation,'' Mr Veerasamy said.

In spite of several announcements by the Election Commission, the state government was continuously making a mockery of the model code, he alleged and requested Mr Tandon to take stern action against the erring officials.
