Congress Governments violating Model Code: BJP

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) A BJP delegation today called on Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon here and complained that Congress were ''misusing'' state funds through advertisements for election purposes.

In a memorandum submitted with the Election Commission, the delegation led by BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi demanded immediate action against the Haryana Government and UPA Government at the Centre under Election Rules clauses 16A for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

It said the Congress Government in Haryana had issued advertisements appeared in many newspapers on April 5, which read "Aap Ka Saath, Hamaara Prayas-Hoga Vikas.

Many newspapers in which the advertisement appeared also had circulation in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam which might influence the voters, they pointed said.

The advertisements had shown Congress President Sonia Gandhi along with the Congress symbol "hand", although Ms Gandhi was neither Chairman of the National Security Council nor she had gone to Haryana to attend any function there.

The delegation claimed that the Election Commission had notified the schedule for the Rae Bareily Lok Sabha by election and the same advertisement had appeared in many Hindi newspapers, being published from Rae Bareily, thus violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Another accused in fodder scam sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Special CBI Judge Ranchi today convicted one of the key suppliers involved in the fodder scam to five years imprisonment. Sushil Kumar Jha, who owns Bharti Enterprises (Patna) and Seva Medical Agency (Jamtara), was also fined Rs 86,000, according to the CBI. The accused, had withdrawn Rs 56.94 lakh from Godda treasury through false bills. This is the 15th case in the fodder scam in which Jha has been convicted. UNI AN.....

Search warrant application hearing adjourned till Apr 13

Mumbai, Apr 7 (UNI) A sessions court today adjourned the hearing of an application filed by an officer of anti-corruption bureau (ACB) seeking a search warrant against his collegue who refused to hand over the documents related to the Lohar brothers' case in connection with the 2001 MPSC scam. The matter came up before Additional Sessions Judge S P Mahajan this afternoon, who adjourned the matter till April 13 following a request from special public.....

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Delhi High Court seniormost Judge Vijender Jain will take over as acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. President A P J Abdul Kalam has appointed Justice Jain as acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court from the date Chief Justice Markandeya Katju relinquishes the charge, according to a notification released here today.
