Buddha Jayanti celebrations tomorrow

New Delhi, Apri7 (UNI) Maha Bodhi Society of India has joined hands with Indian Cultural Study Association, Japan, to celebrate the 2550th Buddha Jayanti here tomorrow.

Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy will inaugurate the function while Minister of state for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni will be the chief guest.

Academic session on "Paths to peace" has been organised on the same day. Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi, HH 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Drodul Trinley Dorje, Kalyanmitra Vipassanacharya, Dr Satya Narayan Goenka, Prof Samdhong Rinpoche and Dr DS Uchida will be participating in a day-long session, according to a release here.

Buddha Jayanti is a triple festival celebrating birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha.

Celebrations for the second day will be be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at Buddha Jayanti Smarak Park. The day will be marked by lotus flower show and divine songs rendered by I P Baba party and Himalayan cultural group, the release added.

Rajasthan Assembly passes Anti-Conversion Bill

Jaipur, Apr 7 (UNI) The Rajasthan Assembly today passed the Anti-Conversion Bill-2006 through a voice-vote. After state Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria assured the House that the Bill titled 'Rajasthan Dharma Swatantraya Bill 2006' is not against any person or religion but intends to make 'forceful conversions' and allurement in religious conversions punishable, the Bill was passed on the last day of the Budget session. NDA,UPA leaders consulting legal experts

Ranchi, Apr 7 (UNI) The leaders of ruling NDA and opposition UPA are busy consulting legal experts over the issuance of show cause notice to 19 Jharkhand legislators by the Election Commission in connection with the disqualification petitions relating to holding the 'office of profit' controversy.
