BSP releases first list of candidates for TN polls

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 7 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today released its first list of candidates for 49 constituencies for the May eight Assembly elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Releasing the list at a press meet here, BSP National Secretary and Coordinator for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry Suresh Mane said the BSP and the Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) had jointly fielded candidates for all the 234 constituencies.

PT candidates will constest under the banner and symbol of BSP.

Asked if the parties intend to merge at a later date, Dr Mane said ''anything can happen at any time. Please wait for April 14 when the party will release its election manifesto.'' To a question, he said the BSP will contest all 140 seats in Kerala and 22 seats in Pondicherry. The party will go it alone in these places.

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Dismissing the CPI (M)'s complaints on the raid of its zonal party office in Paschim Midnapore district of West Bengal, the Election Commission today said that its observer had acted ''correctly'' and ''committed no fault.'' Citing the report of the two-member team it had sent to probe the matter, the EC, in a statement here, said it was ''pained to note that the facts of the case have been distorted.....

17 file nominations for bypoll in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 7 (UNI) As many as 17 candidates filed their nominations for by-elections to three Assembly constituencies in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on the last day of the filing of papers today. Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Abdul Hamid, who is the returning officer, told UNI that while eight candidates filed nominations from Sangrama, four from Pattan and five from Rafiabad constituencies. The scrutiny of papers will be held on April 9 while the last.....
