Boucher meets Saran, Jaishankar

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) India and the US today held discussions on the current consideration of India-US nuclear deal in the US Congress and reviewed progress in other important areas of cooperation between the two countries as a follow-up to the visit of President George Bush to India in March.

US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher, currently on a two-day visit to India, held talks on Indo-US bilateral relations with Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and Dr S Jaishankar, Joint Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

There was also an exchange on regional issues over lunch with other senior officials of the Ministry, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

The visit by the US official comes close on the heels of Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran's tour of the US where he held talks with several top officials of the US administration including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns.

Both of them assured Mr Saran of Bush administration's commitment to the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Mayoral elections in Delhi on Apr 12

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Congress Councillor Farhad Suri will take on BJP's Savita Gupta for the Mayor's chair while Anita Babbar (Cong) takes on BJP's Surendra Singh for the Deputy Mayor's post. English team takes ''sunset cruise'' on Kerala backwaters

Kochi, Apr 7 (UNI) The entire English team, some of them accompanied by their family members, today took a ''sunset cruise'' on the backwaters, widely known for their scenic beauty and tranquility. The visitors went boating on the Kochi backwaters for nearly two hours and came back very impressed by the scenic beauty all around, sources at the Taj Malabar, where both the Indian and English teams are staying, said. Hoggard says India are the best ODI side in the world
