BJP trying to gain extra mileage on Telangana issue: Cong leader

Tirupati, Apr 7 (UNI) APSRTC chairman and Congress leader Gone Prakash Rao today alleged that the BJP supporting the formation of separate Telangana was nothing but electoral tactics to derieve political advantage in future.

Addressing a press conference here, he said when TRS leader K Chandrashekar Rao met senior BJP leaders A B Vajpayee and L K Advani five months ago, they categorically told Mr Rao that a resolution in the Assembly resolution was a must for separate state for Telangana.

Former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu also supported the same argument, he pointed out.

However, in a recent statement at Hyderabad, BJP President Rajnath Singh charged the Congress with cheating the people of Telangana, which he said was ridiculous and baseless.

During the BJP-led NDA regime at the Centre, the BJP had carved out three separate states while setting aside the issue of Telangana. The raising of the separate state slogan for Telangana by the BJP was only a political stunt, he alleged.
