Arunachal NGOs express solidarity

Itanagar, Apr 7 (UNI) Expressing solidarity with the fasting Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, representatives of various NGOs in Arunachal Pradesh today staged a day long dharna here today, joining their counterparts across the country.

Holding placards, representatives of Arunachal Citizens' Rights, Tribal Survival, Sparsh of Centre for Environment and Development, Arunachal Pradesh Rights to Information Bureau, Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Association, Arunachal Pradesh unit of Human Rights Law Network and Global Human Rights Organization took out a procession covering the main thoroughfare of the state capital before holding a sit-in dharna along the National Highway 52A.

Ms Patkar, who has been on hunger strike for the last seven days, has turned down Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's request to end her fast, saying she would continue her agitation till the government makes public its report on the rehabilitation of the families affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project.

India could emerge as refuelling stop for intl flights

New Delhi, Apr 7: Refuelling of long distance flights will now be treated on an equal footing with other exports and brought under the export promotion scheme, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said today.''This will hopefully enable India to offer competitive fuel prices and will attract mid-route stops of international flights,'' he said while releasing annual supplement to the foreign trade policy for 04-09.Currently, most foreign airlines replenish supplies of food, beverage and other items or refuel.....

SBI strike results in UP govt financial crises

'BJP's Rath Yatra would encourage communal violence'

Pondicherry, Apr 7: AICC General Secretary V Narayansamy today claimed the 'Rath Yatra'' by BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and L K Advani will trigger communal violence in the country.Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the BJP's Rath Yatra was to discredit the Congress, since the BJP wanted to destablise the economy of the country and split people on the basis of religion.Mr Narayanasamy also alleged that the yatra was planned to divert the attention of the people.....
