All India Brahmin Mahasammelan slams BSP

Lucknow, Apr 7 (UNI) All India Brahmin Mahasammelan today flayed the BSP for ''victimising'' the Brahmins and expressed confidence that the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party would project their interests.

The Sammelan was attended by Samajwadi Party General Secretary and UP PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav.

Organised by Ashok Pathak, the national president of All India Brahmin Mahasabha, the Mahasammelan was attended by Shri Keshavacharya of Naimish Vyas Peth, Sant Narayan of Saraswati Peeth, Prayag, Yagnacharya Pandit Vinay Kumar Shastri, Shri Manoj Kumar Shastri of Shukra Teerth among others.

Describing Parashuram as symbol of the dignity of Brahmins, various speakers said it was the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh declared a public holiday on Parashuram Jayanti for the first time. They also hailed the decision of the state government to instal a statue of Parashuram.

They said all political parties and their leaders begining from Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru to Atal Bihari Vajpayee ignored the interests of the Brahmin Samaj and used them for their political gains.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shivpal Singh Yadav assured all support to the Brahmin Samaj, saying the SP had the maximum number of Brahmins in its cadre. Mr Janeswar Mishra, a Brahmin, was S P Vice President, he said.

Countering the recent ''Brahmin wooing'' by the Bahujan Samaj Party, the SP leader said the BSP always humiliated the members of this caste. Without naming Ms Mayawati, Mr Yadav said she had always targeted the upper castes, especially the Brahmins.

Samajwadi Party announces 9-party front in TN

Chennai, Apr 7 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Samajwadi Party (SP) today announced the formation of a nine-party 'Social Justice Front' to fight the May eight Assembly elections in the state. Talking to reporters here, party state President M Gopalakrishnan said the SP would contest 50 seats and the front 177 seats. Some other parties had also evinced interest in joining the front and the party would finalise the number of constituents by April.....
