7 injured in bomb explosion in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Apr 7: Seven people, including two Special Police Officers,(SPD) were injured when an improvised explosive device attached to a corpse exploded today in the naxal-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Two persons, who were seriously injured in the explosion at village Bharpal near Bhairamgarh, had been admitted to Bharamgarh hospital, police said.

Police said naxalites killed a villager and kept the body laced with IED on the road to trap police personnel. As two SPOs and villagers removed the body for postmortem, the pressure bomb attached to it exploded.

SPOs are local youth appointed on a monthly honorarium of Rs 1500 to assist the police in intelligence gathering and security operations in the naxalite affected areas in the Bastar region.

Four children admitted to hospital for food poisoning

Akola, Apr 7 (UNI) Four children of a family in Seoni village here were admitted to a hospital here after they began vomitting on consumption of stale 'khichdi', police said. The children, aged between one and 15 years, have been identified as Farhana Anjum alias Rani Muskan, Rizwana and S K Anwesh. Father loses life while rescuing son

Akola, Apr 7 (UNI) A father died here while trying to rescue his son from a well at Sasti village. Mahadeo Mhatre (45) had gone to the fields with his wife and son. He asked his son Ram to fetch water from the well when he slipped and fell into the well. Mhadeo jumped behind Ram to rescue his son and prevent him from drowning. US to grant $600,000 to NGOs for anti-trafficking

Kolkata, Apr 7 (UNI) The United States' department of state will grant 600,000 US dollars to the NGOs in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Meghalaya to combat human trafficking. Speaking at a programme here today, U S Consul General Henry V Jardine said, nearly 4 million people are victims of trafficking annually with 600,000 to 800,000 people being trafficked everyday. Mr Jardine said, ''Human trafficking is an offence against human dignity and crime as young.....
