Speaking after inaugurating the research and development campus of National Institute of Design here, he said ''in an International arena, only those who keep pace will survive, others will perish''.
Stating that India was developing fast, be it in the field of Information Technology or Bio-technology he said enhanced research capability would enable India emerge a global leader. In this regard he highlighted the need to improve the quality of education to not only achieve overall development, but also enable the country to face challenges boldly.
Stressing the need for giving more importance for Research, he said that ''today international investors are looking forward for development in quality as well as designing and to encash the opportunity there is need to give more stress for improving Research wing.'' National Institute of Design (NID) Chairman Dr Ajay K Dua, who is also Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India, in his presidential address said for the first time Research and Development Campus was opened by NID outside Ahmedabad to meet the growing demand for more innovation and new ideas which is becoming driving force of the 21st century.
Focus was on innovations and ideas and hence design plays a key role as an integrating, synthesising force to add value, he added.
Stating that 52 per cent of the country's GDP was contributed by the Services Sector he said there was need for innovati e designs as traditional designing would not help for survival in the growing competitive world wherein every minute design was changed to attract customers.
Mr Dua said the campus was built at a cost of Rs 4.8 Crore, including Rs 2,5 Crore spent on interiors and equipment for Labs.
