Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has put this project on the fast track, with clear directions to complete it within one year. This project would provide easy access to the Golden Temple, free from traffic congestion which is there on the roads and lanes leading to the shrine.
Even before announcement by the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister had cleared the conceptual plan of the project in a meeting held here on September eight last year. While clearing the project the Chief Minister directed the Municipal Corporation to complete this project within one year positively.
The Punjab government has already appointed consultants after discussions with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
After the announcement of the project by the Prime Minister the state government will now float global tenders, an offical spokesman today stated.
The consultants have finalised construction of the elevated road to provide smooth access to devotees going from Jalandhar-Amritsar road and also to devotees coming from Amritsar Airport.
The four lane elevated road would be constructed from Maqboolpura Chowk to Bhandari Bridge with two entry points and exit Ramps at three locations. Ramp-I will be constructed to facilitate traffic coming from Jalandhar side (Maqboolpura Chowk) towards Golden Temple .Ramp-II would be constructed for traffic coming from Bhandari bridge side to Golden Temple. Ramp-III would be constructed to facilitate traffic from Golden Temple side towards Jalandhar side via Ramtalai Chowk on GT Road.
The spokesman said the elevated road would have direct link to the proposed multi level parking having a capacity of 1500 vehicles near the shrine. The elevated road would also decongest the city because the road will be constructed on single pillar and the normal traffic on the present GT road will not be effected.
The project has become necessary because of increasing rush of devotees which has further escalated due to opening of Wagah Border and international flights landing at Raja Sansi Airport here.
The foundation stone of this project would be laid in the first week of May and the project would be completed in one year.
