CITU demands CBI probe into workers' union president's murder

Allahabad, Mar 31 (UNI) Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) today demanded a CBI probe into the murder of Triveni Sheet Glass Factory workers' union president Amrendra Kumar Pandey on March 24 near Ghoorpur here.

Talking to newspersons, CITU national secretary and MP Deepankar Mukherjee said the muder of a trade union leader was a serious matter. ''There is a nexus between the factory owner, police and administration, therefore no action is being taken against the culprits.'' In a a letter to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, he asserted it was the government's duty to unmask ''the real face of the conspirators.'' Mr Mukherjee further alleged the mill owner had been threatening Pandey for the last seveal yrs with dire consequences.

Pandey was murdered in front of the factory gate by unidentified assailants. So far, police has arrested two persons in this connection.

FIRs have been lodged against the managing director and two managers of the factory.
