Wife of UP Congress leader dies after attack in Lucknow

New Delhi, Mar 25 (UNI) Fifty-year-old Meher Bhargava, wife of a Congress leader in Uttar Pradesh injured in an attack last month after she tried to save her daughter-in-law from eve-teasers in Lucknow, died here today at a private hospital.

Ms Bharagava, wife of Luv Bharagava, was shot at by an alleged criminal, who is said to be close to a ruling party leader in Uttar Pradesh, according to sources.

She was admitted to the Apollo Hospital here a couple of days back and was kept under life-support system.

She was also partially paralysed bacause of the attack, sources added.

The accused, who is involved in several cases including one of murder, is yet to be nabbed.

The Bhargava family alleges that the culprit is not being arrested, despite the police knowing where he was hiding, as he was well connected.

The police, on the other hand, has shown the arrest of two persons, whom the Bhargavas say were onlookers and not the accused.

JK govt release eight militants

Jammu, Mar 25 (UNI) In a goodwill gesture, the Jammu and Kashmir government today released eight militants from the Kotebolwal Jail here. According to jail authorities, Mohammad Taj of Rajouri, Farid Ahmed Malik of Doda, Mohammad Akaram Chauhan of Poonch, Abdul Rehman Deka, Bashir Ahmed Batt, Frook Ahmed Itoo, Mohammad Nazar and Irshad Husain Batt all residents of Anantnag district were released. The state government had declared it would released 40 out of 403 militants.....

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) Amidst slogan-shouting by the main opposition Telugu Desam Party, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly tonight adopted the bill to amend the state mutually aided Cooperative Societies act, 1995 to restore the 1964 act and reintroduce the Anand pattern of three tier structure. Even as the TDP members rose to register their protest, panel Speaker B Veda Vyas put the bill as also the clauses to vote and they were adopted by voice.....

Palestinians get 2 million dollars in World Bank bird flu aid

GAZA, Mar 25 (Reuters) The World Bank will donate 2 million dollars to help Palestinians contain an outbreak of the deadly avian flu in the Gaza Strip, a bank official said today. Contagions were discovered in two Gaza chicken farms this week, the first cases in Palestinian-ruled areas.
