Venkaiah Naidu predicts fall of UPA Government

Bangalore, Mar 25: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Venkaiah Naidu today forecast the imminent fall of Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre after Assembly Elections to the Five States in May.

Speaking at a function to mark the takingover of Mr Sadananda Gowda as new President of State BJP here, Mr Naidu urged the partymen to gear up for elections.

He claimed that ''not even a Single youth was provided job after announcement of Job Guarantee Scheme by the UPA, prices of essential commodities were sky rocketing but the government is sleeping." Calling upon the workers to strictly maintain discipline, Mr Naidu said that " due to wrong doings by one or two workers the party's image has gone down. We should maintain discipline and follow the Party constitution strictly." Terming Congress President Sonia Gandhi resignnation from the Lok Sabha as a 'big drama', Mr Naidu said that ''she quit fearing that she may be disqualified''. It was Congress which raised the Ms Jaya Bachan issue and paid for it he added.

BJP National General Secretary, incharge of Karnataka, T Ghelot, in his address said the BJP in Karnataka has succeeded not only in forming the coalition government along the Janata Dal (Secular) but also proved its ability by presenting a populour Budget. ''No State in the country has come forward to reduce the interest rates to farmers to four per cent and schemes aimed at empowering Girls child and I am confident of this coalition government will complete full term in the office.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa speaking on teh occasion said would soon lead a delegation to Gujarat to study power reforms undertaken in that State and implement the reforms to ensure at least 18 hour power supply was maintained in rural areas.

Mr Sadananada Gowda, who took over the reins from Mr Jagadish Shettar, assured to work for strengthening the party at grassroot level and take all the workers into confidence.

Thailand woman tourist still missing in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 25: Police have launched a massive search operation to trace a woman tourist from Thailand, Haunge Sui Chin, who is missing since Wednesday afternoon, official sources today said.Police have searched Gulmarg, a major attraction for foreign tourists because of snow slopes, without achieving any breakthrough.All huts and hotels at Gulmarg were searcheds, but the whereabouts of the tourists were still not known, official sources said.They said police parties have been rushed to other tourist.....

Visitors oppose entry fee to Debkund, Lulung in Simlipal

Baripada, Mar 24 (UNI) Picnickers and nature lovers are sore over the recent decision of the Simlipal Tiger Reserve (STR) authorities to collect entry fee for visiting Debkund and Lulung inside the Simlipal forest. Both the sites are considered as most favourable picnic spots for hundreds of visitors are located in the ''buffer zone'' of the Reserve forest. Sources said the checkgates would be established at the entry points of these two natural spots for facilitating.....

NPO to stop transportation of rice

Imphal, Mar 25 (UNI) Naga People's Organisation (NPO) today announced to stop transportation of rice to the city if the Manipur government did not prevent alleged pilfering in the public distribution system. The NPO alleged that about 30 per cent of rice alloted to the hilly areas are taken away by various militant organisations. The NPO has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh urging him to stop ''official-militant'' nexus and prevent looting.....
