TDP walks out from meeting with Minister

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party today boycotted inspection of files pertaining to the Sripadasagar project, alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government had not furnished all the documents.

The TDP had stalled the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly several times during the ongoing budget session alleging that the project cost was hiked overnight by Rs 400 crore and Congress leaders and contractors colluded to pocket public money. It demanded that files be placed before the Speaker for the inspection of the opposition.

The government which initially rejected the demand had agreed to place the files in the office of the Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah. The TDP, which rejected the proposal and demanded that the files be placed before the Speaker, later agreed to inspect the files. It was agreed that the TDP would inspect the files at 1700 hrs in the office of the Major Irrigation Minister today.

There was pandemoneum in the meeting also, with TDP members charging the government of showing only selected files and not those that would embarrass them and the ruling party members alleging that the TDP had shown fabricated documents to the House to defame the Congress.

The government has allowed only two people to inspect the files from each party and put a condition that both the two representatives should be MLAs. Four MLAs of the TDP came for the inspection and only two were allowed.

Congress also sent two of its MLAs for inspection of the files and its associate members Janata Party, BSP and Samajwadi Party also sent their members turning the minister's chambers into a mini assembly.

While the TDP charged that the government had hidden some files, the Congress had charged that the TDP had not the patience to inspect the files and walked out after picking up a row. Congress leaders said the TDP was only using the issue for political leverage and had no fair intentions.
