Shinde to discuss Indian power sector issues in US

Washington, Mar 25 (UNI) Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde will participate in a roundtable discussion being organised by the USIBC and FICCI to discuss foreign investment and industry issues related to India's power sector during his visit to Washington DC from April 24 to April 27.

The Government of India has announced plans to implement five ultra mega power plants, each having a minimum capacity of 4,000 MW.

Mr Shinde will also visit New York, Chicago and Los Angeles where he will meet with the representatives of the US Industry to seek investment in the power and energy sector in India.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia is also slated to visit the US in the third week of April.

Dr Ahluwalia, who is expected to be here between April 19 to April 21, will deliver an address at American Enterprise Institute and attend meetings at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

He is also scheduled to participate in a special session at the US India Business Council (USIBC).

Six fake BSF-men arrested for procuring loan

Jammu, Mar 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested six people involved in preparation of fake documents of the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and procuring personal loan from a nationalised bank, official sources said today (Mar 26, 2006).The kingpin of the gang Rakesh Kumar of village Mandal was drawing personal loan from the branch of a bank here at Trikuta Nagar on fake documents of BSF-men in connivance with the bank officials.The members of the gang.....

Garo Hills paralyed to protest amend Mbose bill

Shillong, Mar 25: Life in three districts of Garo Hills in Meghalaya paralysed today (Mar 25, 2006) in protest against passing of Meghalaya Board of School Education (Amendment) Bill, 2005, in the state assembly yesterday.The protest sponsored by the Garo Students' Union targetted the government offices to vent opposition of the controversial bill that rocked the Garo hills for the past four months.The bill was passed yesterday despite a strong protest by the NCP members from Garo hills.....

13 killed in naxal blast in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Mar 25: At least 13 people were killed and four injured when naxalites triggered a landmine blast at village Godha, about 12 Kms from Pakhanjur, in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh early this morning (Mar 25, 2006).Kanker District Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta said bodies of the victims torn into pieces were lying scattered around the blast site.
