"Ram" in line for rare honour at Cyprus festival

Chennai, May 25 (UNI) Tamil film "Ram" directed by Ameer is competing for the prestigious Golden Aphrodite Award for the best film at Cyprus International Film Festival which began today.

"Ram" is the second Tamil film after the legendary Sivaji Ganesan starrer, "Veerapandiya Kattabomman" was selected in 1960 for screening at the awards category of an international film festival.

Over 130 films from 40 countries will be screened at the Cyprus film festival. Among them, only 11, including two from Asia, have been selected for the category.

The films from Asia include, "Ram" and a Chinese film "A Dum Girl In a Snowcapped Mountain".

"Ram" has won critical appreciation from the media and was also screened in the Indian Panorama section of the Indian International Film Festival in Goa last year.

Ameer is already in Cyprus and "Ram" would be screened on all three days of the festival.

Person with arms arrested

Diphu, Mar 25 (UNI) Police today arrested one Sukleswar Daimary carrying two AK-47 rifles and about 30 rounds of ammunition at Khagarijan under Bokajan police station. Special Lok Adalat disposes 180 cases

Patna, Mar 25 (UNI) A Special Lok Adalat organised at Patna civil court under the aegies of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) today disposed off 180 cases relating to bank loans. The cases of the bank loans worth Rs 95 lakhs were settled in the special lok adalat in which 24 branches of the State Bank of India participated. Security beefed up in Mayurbhanj bordering Jharkhand

Baripada, Mar 25 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in Naxal-prone areas of Mayurbhanj district situated in close proximity of the neighbouring Jharkhand following the pre-dawn swoop of the ultras' in the R Udaygiri town in Gajapati district yesterday police said.
