Prince Charles, Camilla arriving to India on Mar 26

New Delhi, Mar 25: Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles will arrive here tomorrow (Mar 26, 2006) on a six-day visit to India, primarily to support environmental and conservation initiatives and discuss employment opportunities for young people.

The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall will be in India on the final leg of their three-nation tour that also took them to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

A senior official of the British High Commission here said the visit to India aims at promoting the Royal couple's environmental initiatives and discuss employment opportunities with the youth.

In Delhi, the Royal couple will attend the British High Commissioner's annual reception for diplomats, politicians and businessmen.

However, a senior official of the External Affairs Ministry declined comment on the itinerary of the Prince and the Duchess.

This will be the first visit of Prince Charles to India along with his second wife. Fourteen years back, he had visited India alon gwith his first wife Princess Diana.

The Royal couple is scheduled to visit Rajasthan and Punjab also during their week-long stay in India where the Prince will discuss several initiatives in sustainable farming, water conservation and employment generation.

Chief Ministers of both states had extended an invitation to Prince Charles.

In Punjab, Prince Charles is likely to visit the erstwhile princely city of Patiala. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will host a dinner for him.

The Prince is also likely to visit Gurdwara Anandpur Sahib.

The purpose of the tour is to promote inter-faith understanding and environmental and conservation initiatives and also encourage sustainable employment and training opportunities for young people, the official of the British High Commission said.
