No need for MLAS to resign, says Amarinder

Patiala, Mar 25 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today said there is no need for Congress MLAs, who have been appointed chairpersons of various boards and corporations, to resign.

Addressing a press conference here after a function organised by Arthies Association, he said Punjab has its own law, framed in 1962, that an MLA could be appointed as the head of board or corporation.

He was reacting to a news report attributed to State Congress President S S Dullo in which he has asked all those Congress MLAs who are working as Chairpersons of boards and corporations to resign from their respective offices by towing the line of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Capt Singh said Mr Dullo might not be aware of the law which was enforced more than 40 years back.

He disclosed that he along with his cabinet colleagues met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh regarding substantial hike in the MSP of wheat and said Prime Minister had assured them of new MSP in couple of days. The Punjab Government will start the procurement of Wheat from April 1, he added.
