Murli Deora to visit US from Mar 29 for Annual Energy meet

Washington, Mar 25: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora will be on a visit to the United States from March 29, to participate in the US Energy Association Annual Meeting and other events.

Mr Deora is expected to be in Washington DC from April 2 to April 4, where he will deliver a keynote address at the US Energy Association Annual General Meeting.

The US-India Business Council will host the Minister and a delegation of government and private sector representatives for an afternoon roundtable at the US Chamber of Commerce, Ambassador Frank G Wisner will chair the meeting.

Senior leaders of small, medium, and large oil and gas companies, engineering firms, and equity investors are expected to participate in the roundtable.

The Minister will be in Houston, Texas, from March 29 to April 1, to participate in Roadshows to launch the sixth round of New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP-VI) and third round of Coal Bed Methane (CBM-III).

Besides Mr Deora, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, will also be in Washington DC from March 28-31 to meet his US counterpart, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns and other Congressmen, in a bid to clarify any lingring doubts about the recent US-India neclear deal.

Rice questions why Saudi might need nuke energy

Washington, Dec 16: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today questioned why oil-rich Saudi Arabia might want nuclear power and said she wanted to know more about plans by Gulf states to study nuclear energy. ''I'd like to know more about it and I think it's something that we should have discussions (about),'' Rice told Reuters when asked about the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council's decision to study a possible joint civil atomic program......
