Mah govt to solve octroi problem soon: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Mar 25 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today declared that a solution to the octroi problem would be announced soon.

''Octroi is one area, which is creating a lot of problem in industrial growth and we will soon be able to find a solution, so that industrial growth does not suffer. We are also looking into repealing of Urban Land Ceiling Regulation Act (ULCRA) and are seeking a consensus from all political parties on this issue,'' Mr Deshmukh said, while addressing the Maharashtra Annual Day conference organised by Confederation of Indian Industries here, a CII release said today.

The Chief Minister released two reports on the occasion 'Livelihoods, Employment and Sustainable Development' and 'Exports Potential in Maharashtra.' Emphasizing on the need for the state to take steps in the area of power generation, Mr Deshmukh also announced that the first phase of the Dabhol project would soon provide a substantial amount of power to the state.

Speaking on the theme of 'Livelihoods, Employment and Sustainable Development,' Secretary of State for Industries V K Jairath, stressed on the importance of creating an authentic database and identifying opportunities, while Police Commissioner A N Roy said that a healthy public order was the foundation on which the entire edifice of development stood.

Thermax Ltd director Anu Aga presented the corporate perspective while founder of NGO Akanksha Shaheen Mistri spoke from the youth's viewpoint.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) director Prof S Parasuraman made a presentation on the CII-TISS Study on 'Livelihoods, Employment and Sustainable Development' on the ocassion.

Web portal on career guidance to start from Mar 30

Kolhapur, Mar 25 (UNI) A Research data-based web portal has been developed to provide guidance in education and careers in English, Hindi and Marathi languages. The Multi-language portal, developed by Turning Point Web Service Private Ltd, will start from March 30. Talking to reporters here, Turning Point Web Service director Anil Deshmukh said it was one of its kind multi-language web portal in India. NTPC to generate 1,78,000 MUs in 2006-07
