Magistrate to decide deportation of Dutch national

Mumbai, Mar 25 (UNI) The Ministry of External Affairs has appointed an Inquiry Magistrate in New Delhi to decide on deportation of Dutch national Dharmendra Bijayaprasad Debi, 35, accused of murdering two people in his home country in 2004.

Arrested by Mumbai police from Bangalore on January 30, the accused was handed over to the Delhi police by a city court on Thursday. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode passed the handover order on the request of Central Bureau of Invesgitation, according to investigating officer Dattatraya Bhargude, who had caught him five days after the Netherlands police issued an Interpol red corner notice for him.

Debi is the prime suspect in the murder of Robenson Mahabier and Jeroen Dekkers over a financial dispute, according to the Dutch police.

The two went missing after they travelled to the Hague on August 12, 2004, to settle a financial dispute with Debi, who was interrogated but let off by the Hague police in the same month.

Subsequently, the Hague police found the decomposed bodies of Mababier and Dekkers in a vacated building, owned by Debi. When the police tried to contact Debi, they found that he had left for India on August 22. The Hague police contacted their Indian counterparts.

When the request reached city police commissioner, Mr Bhargude was deputed to trace Debi.

Mr Bhargude said as per extradition treaty the accused have to be produced before an inquiry magistrate within 60 days of his arrest.

Debi, during custodial interrogation, claimed the deceased were part of a local gang that disliked Indians. He said they were demanding money from him and his elder brother Rajendra Prasad. He said they lodged a complaint with the Dutch police but when they did not take any action they came to India, fearing for their lives.
