LED-based emergency lighting systems in rail coaches

Chennai, Mar 25: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has introduced LED-based emergency lighting systems in its coaches to help relief and rescue activities in the event of rail mishaps.

Compared to the conventional filament-based lamps, these lighting systems were more reliable and would not either fuse or fail due to the impact of any accident, a release here said yesterday.

Railway Board Additional Member R K Sareen inspected a coach fitted with LED-based emergency light systems.

These lights have long life and low power consumption and would be of immense use to save human lives in case of an accident as the system continue to provide light inside the overturned or damaged coaches for six to eight hours, the release added .

Over hundred houses gutted: 500 families rendered homeless

Chhattisgarh: 11 killed, 4 injured in landmine blast

Jagdalpur, Mar 25: At least 11 people were killed and four injured when naxalites triggered a landmine blast at village Godha, about 12 Kms from Pakhanjur, in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh early this morning (Mar 25, 2006).The incident occurred as a jeep carrying about 20 people, mostly local traders returning to Pakhanjur after attending a weekly market at Sangam, hit the landmine laid by the naxals, police sources said.Kanker Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta said the toll could mount as the bodies.....
