Lavrov holds telephonic talks with Iranian Foreign Minister

Moscow, Mar 25 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has emphasised that Tehran should take steps towards restoring the international community's confidence in its nuclear programme, and resolve the problem through political and diplomatic channels within the framework of the IAEA.

In a telephonic conversation with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki yesterday, Mr Lavrov reiterated the necessity of finding a solution through diplomatic channels.

During the telephonic conversation, they reviewed the current situation around the Iranian nuclear problem, Russian Foreign Ministry today said, adding, the discussion was initiated from the Iranian side.

''Moscow would not agree to anything devised behind its back and then present the sole solution possible,'' the Russian Foreign Minister said in a telephonic statement yesterday.

NGOs criticise govt inaction in preventing use of pesticides

Suicide victim's mother blames LU Prof

Lucknow, Mar 25 (UNI) A complaint has been lodged with the city Police against Prof Ram Karan Singh (Sr), Head Lucknow University statistical department, holding him responsible for the suicide of Anshu Srivastava, a research scholar under him. Anshu, a bright student who had qualified NET exams, was mentally harassed by Singh to an extent that she committed suicide on March 23, Mithilesh Srivastava, mother of the girl alleged in her complaint. Naxals kill 13 villagers in C'garh, Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to relatives

Jagdalpur, Mar 25 (UNI) In stepped-up hostilities, 13 villagers were killed and four injured early today in a landmine blast triggered by CPI(Maoist) naxalites targeting a jeep at Godha village, about 12 km from Pakhanjur, in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.
