Kalan, Chinnasamy to contest as INTUC candidates

Chennai, Mar 25 (UNI) General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu INTUC G Kalan will seek election from Villivakkam, while Mr R Chinnasamy, Secretary National Textile Union, Coimbatore, will contest from Singanallur constituency in the May 8 elections to Tamil Nadu assembly.

State INTUC President P L Subbaiah, in a statement here today, said as the INTUC had forged an alliance with the ruling AIADMK, its candidates would contest on the AIADMK's official symbol of ''two leaves''.

Mr Kalan and Subbaiah had forged the alliance with AIADMK and were allotted two seats. This was objected to by another faction led by state INTUC vice-President N Nanjappan, who also called for disciplinary action against Mr Kalan and others, for allegedly acting against the constitution of the organisations.

Situation under control in Karnal village, say authorities

Karnal, Mar 25 (UNI) The situation in Mehmadpur village of Karnal district is under control, authorities today said. A spokesman for the administration said that the dispute between the two groups of the village was sorted out successfully in presence of the panchayat. George Tirkey, 116 others sent to jail in Adhunik Metalick case

Rourkela, Mar 25 (UNI) Former BJD MLA George Tirkey and 116 tribals involved in yesterday's attack on Adhunik Metalick at Kuanarmunda were arrested today after their bail applications were rejected by the court. Bihar cabinet approves new excise policy

Patna, Mar 25 (UNI) Bihar cabinet today approved new 'Excise Policy' aimed at augmenting excise revenues from country-made and salted liquor. The new excise poilcy stipulats creation of a new corporation under Company Act, 1956. The wholesale dealers of the country-made and salted liquor would have special rights in the corporation.
