India needs professionals in nuclear energy : Kakodkar

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman and Secretary to Department of atomic energy Dr Anil Kakodkar today asserted that 'the country needed professionals for supporting the growth of India's power programme which was destined to be of larger magnitude in the coming decades'.

Delivering 22nd convocation address of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here, Dr Kakodkar pointed out a paradigm shift in terms of scale of working and diversity of activities that we would need to handle.

This is a major human resource challenge, he said.

Stating that nuclear energy was an option which can provide a millionfold increase in energy per unit of mass extracted from the earth, he said access to such large energy with minimum use of earth resources and negligible or minimum adverse impact on earth's environment was also a challenge before the country.

Observing that Homi Bhabha National Institute which would be focussing on research at the interface of scientific enquiry and its application, he said the students would have to carry out research under two guides, one engaged in research and the other in technology development in the institute.

Girglani Commission will be implemented in toto: CM

Prince Charles, Camilla arriving to India on Mar 26

New Delhi, Mar 25: Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles will arrive here tomorrow (Mar 26, 2006) on a six-day visit to India, primarily to support environmental and conservation initiatives and discuss employment opportunities for young people. The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall will be in India on the final leg of their three-nation tour that also took them to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. UP girl wins young author award

Lucknow, Mar 25 (UNI) Shreya Maheshwari of the Uttar Pradesh capital today won the prestigious Classmate Young Author 2005 award for her story 'Stairway to Nowhere'. Shreya is the second Lucknow girl to receive this award after Jyoti Iyer, who won in 2004. The winner gets seven days free tour to London.
