Independent candidate's house attacked

Kokrajhar, Mar 25 (UNI) Armed miscreants attacked the residence of an independent candidate of 28 Gossaigaon LAC in this district last night.

According to family sources, a group of unidentified men, armed with firearms and axes, attacked the residence of Mr Hopna Soren at about 2030 hours.

The miscreants broke open the door of the house but Mr Soren was not at home at the time.

When his brother-in-law Subhash Murmu tried to escape, the attackers fired at him. However, he managed to escape unhurt.

The miscreants also escaped under the cover of darkness.

Mr Soren was not immediately available for comment.

Police have started investigating the matter.

Puri, Mar 25 (UNI) The ambitious plan of Hindus in Dhaka to reconstruct chariots for the Car festival has received a jolt as the traditional carpenters here expressed their inability to execute the work. The carpenters who construct the three gigantic chariots for the Puri Car festival, refused the offer stating that the design of the proposed chariots in Dhaka was not familiar to them. Thiruvananthapuram to be seventh base for Air Deccan

Bangalore, Mar 25 (UNI) India's leading low cost carrier Air Deccan today announced its new base at Thiruvananthapuram. This would be the seventh base for the carrier after New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, Air Deccan said in a release here, adding that a new 180-seater Airbus A320, which would joint the fleet on April three, would be based at the Kerala capital.
