HPMC to transfer to land state civil supplies

Shimla, Mar 25 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) has decided to transfer its land at Kundli on the Delhi-Haryana border to HP State Civil Supplies Corporation (HPSCSC) for the construction of a cold storage.

HPMC's Managing Director CRB Lalit said the HPSCSC would construct a cold storage there for storing perishable goods and marketing them at an appropriate time later.

The corporation has also decided to release four per cent additional dearness allowance (DA) to its employees.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of directors of the corporation here yesterday, he said, adding that it would cost the corporation Rs 17.7 lakh.

He said the corporation had also increased its turnover by Rs 54.32 lakh this year as compared to last year, while assuring to maintain the momentum for the next year as well.

Mr Lalit said the HPMC has invited expression of interest from several companies, including Reliance, Adani Group, ITC and Container Corporation, for sharing the facilities created by the corporation in producing areas for procurement of apples.

Two BKI activists held with RDX, ammunition

Kharar, Mar 25 (UNI) Punjab Police today arrested two Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) activists and recovred 250 grams of RDX and 11 live cartridges of .30 bore rifle from them. Ropar Senior Suprintendent of Police SP Singh said Avtar Singh (46) and Kamajit Singh alias Lally (35) were close associates of BKI's India head Paramjeet Singh Bheora. Earlier Bheora and his associates were arrested by the Delhi and Chandigarh Police on March 20 and 21......

About 50 huts demolished in Shimla

Shimla, Mar 25 (UNI) Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials demolished about 50 huts constructed in forest area of the town today, resuming its campaign of removing encroachments from the government land. Corporation officials, accompanied by police personnel, began removing huts from encroached forest area in Kaithu area of the state capital early morning today, demolishing about 50 huts by evening. SMC is removing huts from forest area of the town following directions from the HP.....

Deemed universities misusing powers: AIMECA

Chennai, Mar 25 (UNI) Amid the controversy surrounding the Deemed universities over the ''AICTE issue'', the All India Medical and Engineering Colleges Association (AIMECA) today demanded that the status given to them be withdrawn immediately. Association President T D Naidu, in a statement here alleged that the powers conferred were misused in all respects by the deemed universities and autonomous colleges, and the status should be withdrawn forthwith.
