Girglani Commission will be implemented in toto: CM

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today promised agitated TRS members in the Assembly that the Girglani Commission report on Telangana would be implemented in letter and spirit.

Dr Reddy intervened when TRS members, dissatisfied with the Home Minister's reply on repatriation of policemen of other regions from Telangana, rushed into the well of the House and shouted slogans.

Referring to the TRS demand that a permanent committee be set up to oversee the implementation of GO 610, providing for repatriation of non-locals from Telangana, he said if such a suggestion was made by the Girglani Commission, it would be implemented.

He wanted the TRS members to sit down with the Home Minister and sort out the issue. The latter earlier denied that the Girglani Commission had suggested setting up of a permanent committee.

The Home Minister agreed to call an all-party meeting to sort out the issue. The police department had begun repatriation of police constables of other regions. However, the 3,000 constables found to be non-locals could not be transferred at once and the government had directed the authorities to shift them in a phased manner, ensuring that administration and law and order was not affected.

The Home Minister said the government would be recruiting 6,000 constable to ensure that the requirement of police was not affected.

Asked when sub-inspectors would be transferred, he said they would be repatriated in a year or year-and-a-half. Some recruitment had been done and it would take some time for new recruits to join duty after training. While implementing GO 610 government was seeing the system did not collapse. He advised TRS not to politicise the issue.
