DIC(K) announces list of 16 candidates

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 25 (UNI) The Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) today announced its first list of 16 candidates for the April-May Assembly elections in the state.

After a meeting of DIC(K) Parliamentary Board here, its President K Muraleedharan said candidates for the remaining two seats -- Chengannur and Kilimanoor-- would be announced later, as the party was negotiating with the Congress-led ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) for shifting the allotted constituencies as per the poll pact concluded with the UDF.

Mr Muraleedharan said he was not contesting the election.

After a marathon-meeting between the Congress and the DIC(K), the former had allotted 18 seats to the DIC(K) on certain conditions.

On the merger of DIC(K) with the Congress, Mr Muraleedharan said a decision would be taken after ascertaining the views and wishes of the party workers. The elections would make the atmosphere smooth, he added.

Following is the list of 16 candidates and their constituencies: Mr P Ramachandran (Hosedurg), Mr K C Kadambooran (Edakkad), Mr N D Appachan (Sultans Battery), Ms Radha Raghavan (North Wayanad), Mr P Sankaran (Quilandy), Mr M P Gangadharan (Ponnani), Mr A Raghavan (Alathur), Mr T V Chandramohan (Wadakkancherry), Mr V Balaram (Kunnamkulam), Mr M A Chandrasekharan (Vadakkekara), Mr T M Jacob (Piravam), Mr Johny Nellur (Muvvattupuzha), Mr Ibrahim Kutty Kallar (Udumbanchola), Mr D Sugathan (Ambalapuzha), Mr Thomas Chandy (Kuttanad) and Maleth Sarala Devi (Aranmula).

Mr Karunakaran also attended today's meeting.

woman burnt to death by in-laws for dowry

Faridabad, Mar 25 (UNI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Chandpur village here, police said today. The victim, Santosh, was married to Om Prakash two years ago and since then she was being tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry, sources said. Militants strangulate kidnapped youth

Jammu, Mar 25 (UNI) A 17-year-old youth was strangulated by suspected terrorists after being kidnapped from his home in Poonch district last night. According to sources two men came to the house of Sadhik Panch, in Sangiot, five mm North East of Bhimber Wali Gali in Poonch district and took his son, Wasim Akram, with them to show the route to Chappar Barally at 2200 hrs last night. JK govt release eight militants

Jammu, Mar 25 (UNI) In a goodwill gesture, the Jammu and Kashmir government today released eight militants from the Kotebolwal Jail here. According to jail authorities, Mohammad Taj of Rajouri, Farid Ahmed Malik of Doda, Mohammad Akaram Chauhan of Poonch, Abdul Rehman Deka, Bashir Ahmed Batt, Frook Ahmed Itoo, Mohammad Nazar and Irshad Husain Batt all residents of Anantnag district were released. The state government had declared it would released 40 out of 403 militants.....
