Businessman duped of Rs 76 lakh

Mumbai, Mar 25 (UNI) A businessman was allegedly cheated to the tune of Rs 76 lakh by a commission agent in the western suburb of Malad recently.

The complainant, Dinesh Pravesh Agarwal (33), in the first information report (FIR) registered yesterday with Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police said that Bharat Mahaprasad Sevak (42) had promised to make him avail a sum of Rs 35 crore as loan amount from a nationalised bank for the upgradation of business, according to the police.

However, Sevak allegedly gave Agarwal a fake demand draft and took Rs 76 lakh as commission from him before he went absconding.

A case of cheating has been registered against Sevak and further investigations were on, police added.

NPO to stop transportation of rice

Imphal, Mar 25 (UNI) Naga People's Organisation (NPO) today announced to stop transportation of rice to the city if the Manipur government did not prevent alleged pilfering in the public distribution system. The NPO alleged that about 30 per cent of rice alloted to the hilly areas are taken away by various militant organisations. The NPO has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh urging him to stop ''official-militant'' nexus and prevent looting.....

Jagdalpur, Mar 25 (UNI) Police today claimed to have shot dead three naxalites in an encounter in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. The encounter took place in Bhairamgarh police station area early this morning. Police recovered the body of a naxalite, besides a gun and ammunition, Bastar Range Inspector General of Police M W Ansari said today. CPI(M) state secretary Anil Biswas' condition deteriorates

Kolkata, Mar 25 (UNI) The condition of CPI(M) state secretary Anil Biswas today deteriorated as he continued to battle for life in a city nursing home. The board of doctors that met this morning said in a bulletin, ''there has been deterioration in his neurological and cardio vascular state since early this morning.''
