Bihar cabinet approves new excise policy

Patna, Mar 25 (UNI) Bihar cabinet today approved new 'Excise Policy' aimed at augmenting excise revenues from country-made and salted liquor.

The new excise poilcy stipulats creation of a new corporation under Company Act, 1956. The wholesale dealers of the country-made and salted liquor would have special rights in the corporation.

A board of directors would also be in place, chaired by the excise commissioner, for high level management in the proposed corporation.

The state cabinet also decided to raise ''special auxillary police'' force through appointment of ex Army personnel on contract.

The term of cotractual jobs would be one year, leaving scope for extension of the term. Each jawan would get Rs 10,000 in one time payment.

Besides, each jawan would get Rs 2,600 for for purchasing uniforms, shoes and other items. Families of those jawans killed while discharging their duties would be given compensation of Rs 10 lakh each.

Baba Ramdev to be ''brand ambassador'' of Bihar

Naveen seeks more central fund for KBK region

Bhubaneswar, Mar 25 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide Rs 500 crores central fund annually to continue developmental programmes in Koraput Bolangir-Kalahandi (KBK) region.
