Unclaimed bag creates panic in the airport

Rajkot, Mar 25: A bag lying 'unclaimed' at the airport lounge here last evening (Mar 24, 2006) put the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and airport officials on tenterhooks, sparking off a rumour that it might contain a bomb.

Police today said the CISF immediately informed them about the bag and a bomb disposable squad was rushed to the airport, who asked the passangers to vacate the lounge immediately.

A search operation revealed that there was nothing objectionable in the bag, police said and added that the owners, Harish Naran and A Chaudhari, later claimed the bag.

Police said during questioning, the duo said they arrived here by taxi from Jamnagar and were about to fly by Jet airways to Mumbai.

They explained that since the flight was delayed by 75 minutes from the scheduled departure time of 2030 hrs, they went out for snacks, keeping the bag near the luggage counter.

Later, the two were told to cancel their tickets and took them to the police station for recording their statements, police added.
