ATSUM calls for highway blocade from tonight

Imphal, Mar 25: The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has called for an indefinite economic blockade on both the National Highways in Manipur from midnight tonight in support of its demands.

The ATSUM said the blockade was called as the government refused to pay any heed to their demands. Other student bodies have also assured to support the strike.

The ATSUM has demanded a functional office for the Additional Director, Education Department, filling up of vacant posts in all schools and adequate infrastructure in all schools in hilly areas.

The grant-in-aid schools in the hilly areas should be taken over by the government.

It further demanded special cell for ST/SC students in Manipur University and establishment of a Hill University.

The tribal students in Manipur should not be asked to submit income certificate while applying for scholarships, it stated.

25 Cong MLAs offer to resign

Bhopal, Mar 25(UNI) About 25 Congress MLAs from Madhya Pradesh today offered to resign to express their solidarity with party chief Sonia Gandhi on the office of profit issue, party sources said. The legislators met Ms Gandhi in New Delhi today. Ms Gandhi, who rejected their offer, however, asked them to work for strengthening the party, according to a party MLA Indrajit Kumar Patel. Anand annihilates Leko, back in joint lead

Monaco, Mar 25 (UNI) A resilient Viswanathan Anand crushed Hungarian Grandmaster Peter Leko in both the blindfold and rapid games to return to the top of the leaderboard after six rounds in the 15th Amber Blindfold and Rapid Chess Tournament here. With this unambiguous 2-0 victory over Leko, Anand joined Alexander Morozevich in the combine lead with 7.5 points -- one point clear of the Veselin Topalov-Francisco Vallejo duo.
