Ambani's resignation will not affect investment in UP: Amar Singh

Lucknow, Mar 25 (UNI) Terming the resignation of industralist Anil Ambani from the Rajya Sabha as his 'individual' decision, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh said it would not affect the investment process in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Singh, who flew into the UP capital this evening, was talking to reporters at the Amuasi airport.

Welcoming Mr Ambani's decision, Mr Singh maintained that it was his individual decision as he was not a member of the Samajwadi Party.

Mr Ambani was elected to the Upper House as an independent member, but the SP supported him.

The SP leader, also the chairman of the UP Development Council, said Mr Ambani would not resign as member of the council and would continue his efforts to bring investment to UP.

The industrialist -- the third casualty from UP on the issue of office of profit after actress Jaya Bachchan was disqualified and Congress president Sonia Gandhi resigned her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat -- resigned from the RS seat today in the wake of the office of profit issue.

Reliance Energy, led by him, is in the process of setting up a gas based Rs 10,000 crore power plant at Dadri, Ghaziabad, in UP. He is expected to continue with the UPDC in advisory capacity.

Mr Ambani was elected to the Upper House as an independent candidate with the SP's support in 2004 along with cine star Jaya Bachchan.

Ms Bachchan had been disqualified last week for holding the post of chairperson of the UP Film Development Council, which was termed as a post of profit.
